REQUEST AN ITEM
You may place a request on an item you would like to borrow, which we call a “hold”, from your home computer or from the a catalog computer in our library. (Not all items may be immediately available for borrowing; when you place a hold for an item that is not currently available, you will be placed on a list and we will let you know when the item is available for your pick-up.)
You will need a valid Mid-York library card to place a hold against an item. (If you don’t have a card, please see How to… “APPLY FOR, REPLACE, OR RENEW YOUR LIBRARY CARD”.
To place a hold: Log in to the Mid-York Catalog. You will need to type in your library card number (without the ‘A’) and your PIN (usually the last four digits of your phone number).
Enter the title of the item, or the name of the author, in the search box on the MY Catalog page and, after locating the item you are interested in, click PLACE HOLD to the right of the item on the search list, or on the record for the single item.
A new window will pop up telling you where the item will be shipped for pickup. If you want to pick it up at a different library, use the drop-down menu and make your choice. Hit PLACE HOLD again, and you will see a confirmation that your hold was placed successfully.
When you are finished placing your hold, remember to log out!
When your item is available for pick-up, we will contact you. In general, you have one week to pick up your item before we have to send it back to its owning library.
If you do not see the item that you would like to borrow in the Mid-York Catalog, we may be able to get it for you through Interlibrary Loan. Please call the library at 687-6331 or 633-2253, and we will gladly assist you with this.
